2 weeks to go!

I LOVE being a part of the Ottawa Fringe - it's fun, it's exhilarating, it's exciting, it's summer!  I CAN'T WAIT to see the plays, to see mine, to enjoy every one and everything.  I love my actors, love this experience.  Consider myself really lucky!

I have an idea!

I have an idea to add a small amount of singing to the play, and I'm really excited about this!  I'm not going to say which song will be sung, as it will be a surprise... but I will say that it matches the play's theme perfectly and that it is a beautiful song:)

I had 2 rehearsals this past weekend and 2 more this weekend - this weekend I am taking the train - too much driving!  We're doing our first "stumble-through" of the entire play this coming Sunday... should be madness!

First weekend of rehearsals completed!

Well to answer my sister's question....

I have an amazing cast.

Adele - Kiersten Hanly
Katherine - Celine Filion
Dee - Heather Archibald
Vanessa - Alexa Higgins
Mother - Jane Morris
Man - J.P. Chartier

My stage manager's name is Jessica Bidgood Clark and she has incredible energy.  She's very calm and detail-oriented - I love her!

I have an awesome poster designed that I'll figure out how to post up here shortly.  Jerome Bourgault designed it - again a wonderful person who's very interested in this project.

I also have a new title for the play.  It's changed to "My Mother's Daughter".

Who am I and why? In this award-winning play, four women face each other and themselves as they struggle with choices and questions of identity. “Moving but not at all sentimental from beginning to end” (Alvina Ruprecht, CBC Radio), it’s a dramatic but light-hearted revelation about four people whose past has determined their inevitable present.

Show times include:
Thursday, June 16 6:30pm
Friday, June 17 11pm
Sunday, June 19 6pm
Tuesday, June 21 9:30pm
Wednesday, June 22 6:30pm
Sunday, June 26 2:30pm

The first weekend of rehearsals were amazing, we played games and we also managed to, by the 2nd day, get up on our feet and block a bit.  One of the highlights for me was watching Alexa fall in love with vacuum cleaners.  I'm digging this experience!

The Crew Comes Together...

I'm inspired again today... my Stage Manager came to Laurier House to visit and she is awesome!  Her name is Jessica Clark Bidgood which is quite a name considering she's only 21 and has never been married:)  She's really talented - she made it into the National Theatre School technical program, and more importantly, she has good aura.  I also have a super cool lighting designer - Chris Wardell, and a creative and talented graphic designer - Jerome Bourgault.  We're still in 2010 and Jerome is already working on graphics for the poster.

Stay tuned... auditions are mid-February!!!

The Evolution of Corners

The second reading of "Corners" took place in the evening on Monday, Dec. 6 at Laurier House.  6 talented actors came out, along with my publicity person.

The reading went really well, and I received good feedback on the play, so I'm going to go ahead with this one for the 2011 Ottawa Fringe Festival.  It's a psychodrama about 4 women in 4 corners who play out the inner drama from their youths.  It's about the impact that parents have on their children as adults.  Well actually one of the 4 is still a teenager, which I decided after this reading, to space the ages out a but further, plus it suits the character more.

It looks like I have a stage manager, it looks like I have a publicity person, and I definitely have a graphic designer for the publicity stuff.  I'm going to have auditions in February 2011, so that I can give the actors a chance to become familiar with the script before rehearsals begin.  All is good!
